How to Design Your Custom Home to be Kid Friendly

Decor and design should never be centered around adulthood when you’ve got young children in your home that need care and attention. At the same time, your decor needs to be timeless.

We’ve talked about the aspects you can add to your custom home that will ensure it’s accommodating for your pets.  But another finicky category of home-dwellers would be your children, and this shouldn’t be taken lightly.  Decor and design should never be centered around adulthood when you’ve got young children in your home that need care and attention.  At the same time, your decor needs to be timeless.  Read on to find out how you can combine all of these aspects at once in your custom home.

Practicality

Children need a home that is safe and practical.  When building, are you making rooms wide and spacious?  Are you ensuring there is a room dedicated to play and games?  Even though both of these aspects benefit young children, they can also be updated once those kids grow older.  A playroom can be transformed into a spare bedroom or an office, and a spacious living room can be outfitted with modern, sleek designs.  Regardless, a child must always be considered when creating a floor plan.

Decor and Design

If you don’t want to renovate later on, you’ll need to plan a room that can easily switch over to another theme without a hitch.  Even if your daughter loves pink when she’s six, she might not love it in another six years.  So, painting her room a bright fuschia is probably not the best choice.  Choose something fun and colorful, like a light blue or violet, so you can use the color later in a more elegant design.  Likewise, ensure that all childlike decor, such as wall decorations or stickers, are easily removable.  This will make sure your renovation takes no time at all.

Organization

All throughout the home, there should be plenty of storage space for organizational purposes.  Not only is this excellent for the rest of the family, it allows for growth.  Children and their toys can seem to explode all over the floor–but they’ll also grow in quantity, along with your child.  Ensure that you have enough built-in storage space to handle the volume of belongings your child may accumulate.
