New Year’s Resolutions for Your New Custom Home

New Year's Resolutions for Your New Custom Home

It isn’t too late to make some New Year’s resolutions for the custom home you live in.

It’s hard to believe that Christmas is here and the end of 2021 is upon us. For many people, this is a time of looking forward with hope and expectations, and the traditional way to capture those feelings is through resolutions. Often people assume that their resolutions should be about themselves and their body since those are the most popular ones: lose weight, go to the gym, look on the bright side, read more books. How about this year, either instead of or in addition to those personal resolutions, we make some resolutions about the spaces we live in? Read on for some suggestions for making resolutions for your new custom home in 2022.

Plan Small Projects

Make a plan now for when and how you want to tackle small improvement projects for your custom home. You know you need to clean the gutters, so plan which season you want to do it in and what you need to do it safely. Likewise, you probably have a drive of digital photos (or a low-tech stack of physical ones) that you want on the wall, put that small project on your checklist and plan now for when you want to do it and what you need.

Declutter With Precision

Most resolutions are “broken” because they’re too big, so instead of resolving to declutter your custom home in its entirety every day, be more precise. Start with a solid plan to organize your clutter problem areas, be they closest, drawers, surfaces, or something else. Tackle each area individually as a small project (see what we did there) and reorganize them so they’re less prone to clutter. You can also tackle clutter one type at a time – make a small project plan for organizing toys, mail, or whatever else becomes clutter in your house.

Create A Clean Routine

Keeping the house clean is a big job, but once you find a routine that works for you it becomes easier. Organize your cleaning tasks into daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal items and take time now to assign each one to a member of the family (and resolve to do them). Take time to prepare an organized space to keep cleaning supplies so that they are easy to get to – you don’t want to clean anyway so don’t make it harder than it has to be by being disorganized.
