Three Phases of the Custom Home Building Process

We work closely with our clients to keep them informed throughout the custom homebuilding process.

Living in a custom home designed for your family and lifestyle is an exciting idea for most. But many wonder what the custom home building process will entail. What can you expect during this multi-step process? If you know what to expect, you can be more confident when designing a custom home. We work closely with our clients at Robin Ford Builders to keep them informed throughout the custom homebuilding process. If you are considering the advantages of custom homes, view the following outline for the project. Contact Robin Ford Builders to discuss your plans in more detail.

Part One: Establish Your Goals

Before designing your home, consider what you want your new custom property to be:

Choose Your Location

As you find the best location for your new home, consider the following questions:

Finally, identify and purchase a lot for your custom home and choose your homebuilding team.

Part Two: Design

Once you have your home building team and home property, it’s time to start your custom home design! This phase is about nailing down the details to avoid unpleasant surprises later.

  2. Select All Finishes and Materials
  3. Approve All Designs and Specifications

There are numerous options available for every detail of your home–from plumbing fixtures to kitchen appliances and door knobs–that must be chosen and confirmed before moving on to the construction phase.

Part Three: Construction

This is the most extensive phase of the custom home building process. Also, note that you may make changes after construction begins, but it will impact the cost and timing of your project. After entering into a construction agreement, your home builder will move through the following steps:

Now, construction can begin. During construction, your custom home building team should:

After 60 to 90 days, your home builder should conduct a follow-up visit to identify any warrantable issues needing attention.
