Every new year brings new resolutions, and we are suggesting this plan for decluttering your custom home as one to add on to your list. It is now time to start fresh, and what better time to clear out some of those items that have been cluttering your custom home since you’ve built it. Once you have decluttered your home, it will feel more calm and relaxing. Read on for a handy guide on decluttering your custom home for 2022!

Decluttering Your Entryway

The first thing your family or guests sees when they come into your home is the entryway, and it definitely sets the tone for the rest of your custom home. If you’ve got a large, dramatic entrance designed to make a statement, there will probably be less to declutter. However, you will still want to remove whatever does not belong there to create a functional area for your entryway. If your entryway isn’t big but is a highly-trafficked spot that has to be functional, then keep the room simple. You really want it to be inviting, warm, and welcoming. Because it also has the role of accepting things like purses, briefcases, handbags, book bags, and more, things can really pile up there. Place a laundry basket or bin, fill up anything that doesn’t belong in the entryway, and move it to a storage room. If none of those items belong or have a purpose, then discard it.

Kitchen Pantry

It happens to everyone. The overfilled pantry and the kitchen appliances. Is the new rice cooker still on the kitchen counter or pantry countertop? Begin with the pantry. Pull everything out, check expiration dates, and throw out everything that is no longer usable into the trash. Place them in the donation bin for items that haven’t passed the expiration date but that you know you’ll want to use. Wipe down all the shelves in your custom home pantry, and then reorder and restock the fresh, new space.

Closets

The hall closet is a great place to start. Like your pantry, take everything out, then get rid of the things you will not use, and place items that have not been used in the last year into your donation basket. This is one spot of your custom home that will need the most decluttering, so prioritize it!
