How to Add More Storage into Your Custom Home Design

When clutter begins to build up around your house, getting enough storage space can feel like a big challenge.

When clutter begins to build up around your house, getting enough storage space can feel like a big challenge. Clutter is able to pile up even in the most organized homes, but it tends to be a lot easier to stay organized when everything has a spot. When you get the chance to create your own custom home, you have the opportunity to ensure from the beginning that there’s plenty of storage space readily available. Here is how to incorporate more storage into your custom home’s design.

A Full Basement

One way to add more storage space into your custom home design is to build a full basement. A full-sized basement stretches the entire length and width of your house. This gives you more opportunities for storage than a smaller-sized basement. In addition to the added square footage, you’ve got plenty of room to separate your full basement into specific rooms and storage spots. You could use a part of the basement as a workout area, hangout spot, or something else a bit different while another section is dedicated to storage. Adding racks and shelving to help organize and better manage the storage capacity of your new basement.

Room or Attic Above the Garage

The space above your custom home’s garage is usually overlooked, but it’s a great spot to add more storage space. An attic or room is a type of area that is built specifically with an open space to create a living area. This space can be turned into a sort of living room, like a loft, or used as another storage space.

Big Mudroom

Another tip for incorporating more storage into your custom home design to by adding a big mudroom. A large mudroom can be a great room in addition to your custom home design. It creates a logical drop zone and helps keep clutter in one area, but you could also opt to make a bigger with plenty of extra room for storage.
