When you think of curb appeal, you may think of siding color or front landscape.  While these are both important to the look of a home, there are many other factors that go into making a successful curb appeal.  One of those factors is a cohesive entryway; this area is encompassed by a variety of elements that all work together to create something beautiful.  If you need some design tips, read on and find out what will make your home look its best.

An Open Design

Space is an important part of welcoming someone into your home; that’s why some houses have open areas like foyers in the front of their floorplans.  The same is true for what surrounds your front door.  An open entryway can consist of a tall overhang, well-spaced columns, and lots of extra room.  Don’t make your overhang the same standard eight-foot height of a ceiling, as this can give the illusion of cramped space.  Try not to over decorate, either.  Let’s explore that idea a little more.

Keep it Simple

You may be tempted to decorate your front entryway with seasonal elements and deck furniture.  Some people line the walkway with foliage, thinking it will be more welcoming.  But, no one wants to step over plants to get to your front door.  And extra decorations can make the area feel cluttered, which won’t make people want to come inside.  Don’t hide your front door.  Invite potential buyers inside with bright colors, open spaces and minimal decorating.

Outdoor Lighting

This is a surprisingly overlooked element.  Installing outdoor lighting in and around your entryway is going to light up the front of your home and make it look much more inviting.  For instance, keep your walkway illuminated with floor lights.  Add in a few outdoor lamps, or string some chic outdoor lights from the branches of your trees.  It doesn’t have to be expensive, and it’s a quick solution to a drab entryway.
